Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about asphalt paving and sealcoating and provide the answers here. If you need additional information send email to mdblacktopllc@aol.com or use the contact us page. Thank you.
1.
Whats the difference between paving & sealcoating?

Paving is adding a layer of asphalt over your existing asphalt or stone.

Sealcoating is a liquid that is either brushed and/or sprayed on over your existing asphalt. giving it a like new appearance.

2.
Whats the price per square foot?
All jobs are not the same. It all depends on how much grading, stone base or asphalt binder base, and the thickness of the asphalt. Some jobs take more prep work then others.

3.
How soon can I walk or drive on it?

Paving work can be driven on in 3 days (72) hours after completion and sealcoating will take 1 day (24) hours after completion. unless otherwise noted by us.

You can walk on newly paved asphalt as soon as it is rolled but we do not advise that. Fresh paved asphalt is tacky and may track onto other surfaces while new.

Sealcoating cannot be walked on or driven on no less then 24 hours. NO EXCEPTIONS!

4.
Do you do concrete?

Only small jobs. We are an asphalt paving company and we specialize in asphalt.

If you have a small area of your walkway or a damaged apron we may be able to help you.

5.
Do you accept credit cards?
YES! VISA, Master Card, Discover & AMEX! We also accept personal and company checks. We also love cash!

6.
When do I need to sealcoat?
You need to sealcoat when you start to see your asphalt turn gray. Sealcoating brings back its original appearance. It also adds years of life.

7.
Why do I see different textures in asphalt?
Asphalt is made up of different sized stone, sand and liquid. Asphalt differs from truck load to truck load and from day to day. Some areas have to be put in by hand where the paving machine cannot reach, or for other reasons such as turns, approaches, and utilities and that causes a texture difference.

8.
How long will my job take to complete?
Most jobs take only one day to complete!

9.
Do you do paving on the weekends?
Yes we can do paving on Saturdays if the asphalt plants are open. We do not work on Sundays.

10.
How long does asphalt last?

Depending on how you take care of it it should last 12-15 years before it should be paved again.

Mother nature has a big effect on asphalt. Cold winters and hot summers as well as vegetation, tree roots, over weight vehicles and just plain neglect has a part on your asphalt longevity.

Sealcoat it at least every 3 years. Watch out for oil/gas leaks/spills, cracks, vegetation growth and over weight vehicles. If you address those problems as soon as you see them then you will avoid a costly repair and maybe even having to repave.
